anterior cruciate ligament ( RID2781 )
Current MRI shows chronic partial tear of the prox-mid ACL with adjacent ganglion (white arrow) which is larger now as compared to 5 months prior. What is interesting is the heterogeneous, predeominantly dark nodular focus superficial to the intact ACL footplate now. 5 months ago this looks like a 2nd ganglion. The attached article discusses arthrofibrosis in the absence of previous ACL recon: the ACL was partially torn in 5, completely torn in 1 and intact in 4 with arthroscopic correlation. They discuss pathognesis and do not include evolution from a ganglion. Is that what is going on in this case? Or is this simply a chronic, complex ganglion and not arthrofibrosis----and, if so, how can we distinguish between the two? [ Article ]
