quadratus femoris muscle ( RID2637 )
There is cortical irregularity with sucortical cyst formation and marrow edema at the ischial origin of the Quadratus Femoris, with adjacent STS and edema at and around the insertion of the QF. The quadratus femoris and ischiofemoral space is normal; this is not impingement, but seems to be enthesitis and muscle strain. The hamstrings look mostly normal (red arrow indicates adj semimembranosus). On XR we see these cyst like changes at the insertion bilaterally: contralateral hip MRI also shows similar but milder changes at the insertion of the QF. Without evidence of underlying impingement, why does this happen? [ Article ]
