Discussion

4 years ago the open MRI demonstrates a centrally located simple cyst in the proximal humeral metaphysis. 2 years later, there is internal ossification, which has remained stable in XR appearance in the current radiographs. I found one reference from JBJS in 79 that describes this as old calcified fibrin coagula in simple bone cysts. Is that a currently accepted explanation? I have seen other subcortical cysts (in the greater tuberosity in association with cuff tendinosis and tear) ossify over time, but I dont know if that is a different mechanism.

Diagnosis

simple bone cyst ( RID3945 )
