posterior horn of medial meniscus ( RID2776 )
There is a complete tear of the posterior horn medial meniscal root, which is effectively the same as complete medial meniscectomy with regards to increased medial femorotibial contact pressure. Note the extrusion of the medial meniscus, which is intact, but lays bare the medial compartment cartilage. The MCL is stripped off the tibia which will ease arthroscopic exposure to the root. We rarely see these injuries prior to degenerative cartilage loss (after which root repair is not indicated).
