Brostrom procedure and ligament augmentation repair rupture
Ankle-instability surgery has been broadly divided into an anatomic repair consisting of an imbrication of the lateral ligamentous complex and an ankle-ligament reconstruction.
Anatomic repair of the lateral ligament complex with the Brostrom (ligament suture) or Gould (incorporate the inferior extensor retinaculum) techniques are the preferred surgical options.
Synthetic grafts can be used to augment a Brostrom procedure and allows to strengthen the ligament repair in patients with lateral or medial ankle instability. The synthetic graft supports early mobilization of the repaired ligament and allows the natural tissues to progressively strengthen.
