odontoid process of axis ( RID7750 )
There is an unstable odontoid fracture through erosions at the base of the odontoid. Sag MR images show intermediate T1/Dark T2 soft tissue thickening surrounding the odontoid. Cor CT shows smooth erosion with (dare I say) overhanging edges. I know this can happen, but dont actually recall seeing gout in this location. Dr. Petscavage-Thomas from Hershey just presented a paper at SSR on non-union risk for similar fractures in the setting of CPPD (I was actually sent this case in consult during that session----mind blown!).
