iliotibial band ( RID2855 )
There is a sprain of the proximal iliotibial band (yellow arrows) which originates at the iliac tubercle (indicated by red arrows), which is posterior, superior and lateral to the ASIS (blue arrows). This occurs much more commonly in women...athletes (esp runners) and couch potatoes. Often this is missed by exclusion from the standard FOV for many hip MRI, which contributes to chronic symptoms and misdirected / delayed diagnosis. By the way, she happens to have an asymptomatic anterior labral tear.
