Achilles tendon ( RID3184 )
There is chronic achilles tendinosis with superimposed longitudinal split type tear assuming a spiral configuration as it descends from the MTjxn to the insertion. Ive not seen this pattern. It is sagittal plane full thickness medially in its cranial course, then rotates into the coronal plane and is intrasubstance at the insertion of the central and lateral 1/3. I presume this has something to do with the relative contributions of the gastrocnemius and soleus to the Achilles tendon, but the only reference I could find is the source of the last slide, by EJ Cummins in a 1946 journal that I cannot access online.
