calcium hydroxyapatite crystal deposition disease ( RID3594 )
The prescription said attention 5th MPJ sesamoid. I called the DPM, she said her XR showed what looked like an exploded sesamoid...I had her email them to me. The MRI is confusing given the degree of reactive edema: just shows you cannot evaluate for any kind of tear in the setting of HADD with reactive inflammation. I thought it looked like turf toe of the 5th MPJ, but the edema obscures the plate (and he is a sedentary guy). The calcific deposit is barely visible in the long axis and sagittal images. XRs are diagnostic.
