accessory peroneus
This muscle arises from the peroneus brevis tendon in the foot and inserts lateral to the peroneus brevis tendon onto the 5th metatarsal base. I cannot find this variant reported. A peroneus digiti minimi should insert onto the small toe. Not sure if this is a peroneus accessorius...have seen that name without illustration. Does anyone know? Note: slide 3 shows no accessory peroneus at the level of the ankle. Slide 5 in oblique coronal shows the accessory muscle along the cranial surface of the normal peroneus brevis tendon in the midfoot. [ Article ]
