This is a companion case to #1721. We seem to be evenly split on what we consider fasciopathy and fibroma. This is similarly affecting the central cord, distal to the origin at the hind-midfoot junction. In this case there is fusiform expansion with fraying and increased intrasubstance signal, but the arrow indicates superimposed partial tear and there is perifascial edema. This is clearly fasciopathy with partial tear, by imaging and history. The literature is confusing and, I find, often confusing and inaccurate in this regard. Although the attached article is old, it shows similar non-insertional fasciopathy, and distinguishes fibroma by its lobular morphology, which often arises eccentrically from the fascia as illustrated in that reference. I think this is an important distinction as we are now being asked to inject fibromas with steroids to shrink them. Reference article.
